A Very Short Open Letter To CTV
Jun 10th, 2008 by Edward Pollard
Dear CTV,
Please note that should you continue to follow through with whatever plans you have for the Hockey Song, as detailed in this news story, I will never watch anything you broadcast ever again. This is a total dick move on your part that serves in it’s entirety to devalue and demean a national institution.
Congratulations on being, I suspect, total jerks.
I don’t know if I would abandon everything CTV (I love my Corner Gas), but I certainly won’t watch TSN hockey… it will just feel wrong.
But here’s the thing: CTV/TSN has long been stealing CBC Sports’ on-air talent (Chris Cuthbert, Brian Williams), and programming (CFL, 2010&2012 Olympics). Beyond that, CBC’s hockey coverage is gradually going downhill (Bob Cole, need I say more?). I certainly don’t feel bad for the CBC, as a) their sports broadcasting is getting hard to watch anyways, and b) they should’ve seen it coming and done something about it.
